What Is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. By using various techniques, massage therapy can enhance muscle function, aid in the body’s healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being.
Massage therapy also releases endorphins and increases circulation by increasing oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs. Massage therapy can also be very helpful in post-surgery or post-injury recovery, as it promotes healing and reduces adhesions and edema.
Many people use massage to promote wellness, including:
• Athletes
• Expecting mothers
• Physical laborers
• Seniors and sufferers of arthritis
• People who suffer from migraines
• People with high-stress jobs
• Post-operative patients
• People recovering from injuries
Types Of Massages
Our massage therapist works primarily within the techniques of deep tissue therapeutic massage. This technique involves adding firm, slow pressure to muscles in order to relieve tension deep within muscle layers and the surrounding connective tissue.
This is one of the most-used techniques for breaking up scar tissue and reducing muscle knots that cause pain and inflammation. Performed once or regularly, patients can experience relief from chronic aches and pains in the back, legs, shoulders, and neck.
Our massage therapist also performs several other well-known and sought-after techniques, including:
• Swedish Massage
• Chair Massage
• Thai Bodywork
• Reflexology
• Reiki
• Full Body Massage
• Foot Massage
• Prenatal Massage
• Fitness Massage
What To Expect From Your Massage
We promise to take every measure to ensure your massage is a relaxing and comfortable experience from start to finish.
We start every session with a short question and answer session where we learn more about your pain points and problem areas, as well as any conditions we should know about. Once the massage begins, you will also be encouraged to let the massage therapist know what you are and are not comfortable with at every point in the process.
Many people feel some discomfort or pain at certain points during the massage while points of muscle tension are broken up. It is important to tell the massage therapist when things hurt and if any soreness or pain you experience is outside your comfort range.
There is usually some stiffness or pain after a deep tissue massage, but it should subside within a day or so. The massage therapist may recommend applying ice to the area after the massage and/or an Epsom salt bath.
