Nerve Pain

Your nervous system is apart of everything your body does. It helps you blink and breath unconsciously, regulates your heartbeat, and controls your ability to sense hot and cold. Your nervous system is broken down into three types of nerves:

1. Autonomic Nerves

Nerves that control the involuntary actions your body takes. IE. Blood pressure, heart rate, digestion, and temperature regulation.

2. Sensory Nerves

These nerves control what you feel. These are the receptors that control both your pain and your pleasure.

3. Motor Nerves

Information sensors that tell parts of your body to perform actions from your brain. IE. Move your hand, jumping up and down, and walking.
With your nerves being involved and essential in everything you do in your daily life, nerve pain and damage can seriously affect your quality of life. There are more than 100 different types of nerve damage. The multiple types may have separate symptoms and may require different forms of treatment. But, your chiropractor can help you find out if you’re among one of the candidates for natural, safe, chiropractic care!

Chiropractic Care for Nerve Pain

With gentle spine adjustments a chiropractor can perform, you can help to realign your spine and muscles to assist in reducing pressure off of the compressed nerve. This method of assistance for nerve pain is typically preferred by patients to avoid other more invasive and dangerous practices. Additionally, patients opt to choose chiropractic services to alleviate their nerve pain symptoms in order for them to avoid prescription opiates or pain medicine.

After completing a detailed consultation and exam with your chiropractor he/she will attempt to point out the exact source of your pain and suggest one of the following treatments:

Manipulation to adjust the spine

A spine adjustment is an alignment intended to correct vertebral subluxations and assist in reducing nerve pain, increasing blood flow, reduce inflammation, and much more.

Flexion Distraction

A decompression technique that involves the use of a specifically designed table to reduce pressure on the spinal nerves and improve vertebral alignment.

Other Chiropractic Services

Other chiropractic services such as ultrasound treatments, acupuncture, and electrotherapy can also help to ease nerve pain.

With regular trips to your chiropractor, you may see marginal relief over time. Much like physical therapy, several visits and adjustments may be needed over-time depending on the severity of the nerve pain. Typically, any pain that lasts longer than a few weeks or month after chiropractic treatment you may want to start considering surgery.
